Fenland and District Youth Soccer League - U16 Girls
Sunday 26th April 2009
Wisbech St Mary Purples U16 Girls 4 - Swaffam U16 Girls 1
Scorers WSM - Kyra Clarke 4
Saints turned in an great all round performance to convincingly beat Swaffam. The defence were very strong and well organised and stopped any threat from the Swaffam forwards and the midfield worked very hard to set up chances for the Saints forwards. It took nine minutes before Saints had their first real chance; Becki Wilding sending a long range shot just over. A minute later Brooke Delahoy's long clearance found Kyra Clarke who ran on to score with a low shot to the keepers left.Olivia Mowbray then saw her touch go over and Kelly Van Waterschoot shot just wide. A tactical switch by manager Rachael Simpson effectively stopped any further threat from Swaffam's speedy forward. Ashleigh Gibson then saw her corner tipped over. Seven minutes from the end Clarke's cheeky flick made it 2 - 0 and 2 minutes later she got her hatrick firing in from a great cross from Jess Holmes.
In the second half Saints created most of the chances with Holmes, Mowbray, Van waterschoot and Gibson all going close. Beth Simpson and Alice Oakley in defence together with Delahoy helped to snuff out the rare Swaffam attacks. Clarke then got her fourth of the day after a goal mouth scramble. Swaffam then hit the post and ten minutes from the end scored a consolation goal. Goal keeper Becky Milner then made a great save to deny Swaffam a second goal.
